But as I researched Pepakura and the methods employed by cosplayers to turn these into wearable pieces, I realized that the entire costume would be feasible. Pepakura Viewer is the portion that is available for free from. The program is available in two parts: Pepakura Viewer and Pepakura Designer. I like to think of it as a poor-man’s 3D printer in that you can turn virtually anything on your screen into a real-life object (albeit with a lot of tedious work). Many cosplayers use this method to build armor or other objects that would be either too expensive to buy or too difficult to sculpt from scratch. Pepakura is a program used to “unfold” 3D models into flat pieces so that it can be printed on a sturdy paper (I use 110-pound cardstock) and assembled as a papercraft model.
